A Message from the Superintendent

Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to review the second issue of our newsletter, the purpose of which is to ensure that we maintain open and transparent communication with our families and the community at large.

One of the many ways that South Amboy Schools seeks to embody diversity, equity, and inclusion is to translate communications. Many thanks to MHS Counselor Madeline Rondon for editing the Spanish translation of this issue. We also extend huge gratitude to PTO President Judy Pitsios for lending her expertise to produce our newsletters!

Last week I had the privilege of visiting each school’s Back to School Night, and meeting many excited families at both—it was “standing room only” at the Elementary School! Events like these are essential in providing an opportunity for families, faculty, and administrators to meet face to face. The relationship between home and school is a partnership: All we do, together, is for the
best interest of our students.

We are also grateful for our community partnerships and send out thanks to organizations that were at the ES Back to School Night sharing information and freebies with our families. Thank you to the SAPTO, SAYAA, YMCA, Cub Pack 91, Sayreville-South Amboy Girl Scouts, and the SA Elks Lodge No. 784!

Finally, thanks to all who have submitted suggestions for our official newsletter name. If you have an idea, please email me at [email protected] as soon as possible!

District Newsletter Volume 1 - Issue 2

September 19, 2022

Dear South Amboy Middle/High School Families:

As you may be aware, Dr. McCabe is on an approved Leave of Absence and, on August 22, 2022, Dr. Gurczeski was appointed Interim Middle/High School Principal through September 19th.  Today, we introduced Dr. Mario Barbiere to the Middle/High School Faculty and Staff as the school’s new Interim Principal.

Dr. Barbiere is a retired administrator with forty-five (45) years’ experience within the educational field.  He has served as an Assistant Principal, Principal, Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent.  Dr. Barbiere also has extensive experience working with the New Jersey Department of Education as the Executive Director, Comprehensive Support and Improvement Team and the Regional Achievement Center (RAC).  As Executive Director for the RAC, Dr. Barbiere worked with schools and districts to “turn around” the lowest performing schools in the state and to successfully remove them from their “focus” status.

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Barbiere to South Amboy Public Schools.  We look forward to working with him as the school’s new Instructional Leader as he, in turn, works with the families, students, faculty and staff.

Take care,

Dr. Frederick D. Williams
