Military Academy

As part of her duties as a member of Congress, Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman has the honor and privilege of nominating young Americans, ages 17 to 23 years old, from the 12th Congressional District to attend one of the United States Service Academies. Any person seeking to enter the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY; the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD; the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, CO; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NY must obtain a nomination for admission– your Congressional Representative being one potential nomination. Upon graduation, service academy graduates are commissioned as officers in the active or reserve components of the military or merchant marines for a minimum of five years.

In an effort to reach out to possible applicants, the Congresswoman would like to invite students who are interested in attending the Service Academies, along with their families, to her 2nd Annual Service Academy Days.

The purpose of these days will be to inform high schools students and their families of the opportunities available at the different services academies, as well as the application and nomination process through a series of short presentations.  Both events will run a few hours and will feature admissions officers and students from each of the five academies (the four academies mentioned above plus the U.S. Coast Guard Academy).

This year, my office will host two Academy Days:

We would like to ask for your help with the following:

-          We would like you to promote and publicize the Congresswoman’s Academy Days to your students. We have provided you with a flyer to distribute to students, but we also ask that you promote the events through science/math/technology classes, sports teams, social media, school websites and school announcements.

-          We ask that you be prepared to assist students with their applications for the Congressional Nomination. Specifically, high schools will need to provide students with secondary school reports, official transcripts, and recommendations.

-          Finally, we ask that you encourage students to apply for these service academy opportunities.

Finally, the application and guidelines for eligibility for the Congressional Nomination can be found here.

Thank you in advance for helping our office nominate the most talented young men and women in our district to serve our nation.
