Graduation Requirements

In order to graduate from South Amboy High School, students must complete the following:

  • Four years of English (20 credits)
  • Four years of Physical Education/Health (20 credits)
  • Three years of Math - usually Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II (15 Credits)
  • Three years of Lab Science - usually Physical Science, Biology and Chemistry (15 Credits)
  • Three years of History - United States History I and II and World History (15 Credits)
  • Two years of a Foreign Language (10 Credits)
  • One year of Visual/Performing Arts - any of our Arts or Music classes (5 Credits)
  • One year of Practical Arts - any of our Business/Computer classes (5 Credits)
  • One class covering Financial Literacy. Personal Finance is the class we offer.
You will need a total of 125 credits to graduate. This will include courses listed above and electives.

You will also need to complete and document 120 hours of community service, 30 hours per high school year.  

For the graduating class of 2015, all students must have passed the High School Proficiency Assessment or the Alternate High School Assessment.
