On Friday and Saturday the South Amboy track team competed in the NJSIAA Sectional meet. Junior Keahre Ford got the team off to a fast start winning his heat in the 100m setting a new school record of 12.03. In the 1600m Patrick Walsh qualified for the state group meet placing 4th in a close race finishing just 1 second away from first place and a sectional title. In the 400m, Sophomore Isiah Munoz set a new school record running 54.76. The boy’s 4x800m relay team of Ben Henry, Mike Sauls, Joe Wells and Patrick Walsh came up big qualifying for the state group meet placing 6th despite never having run together before. PRs were set by Sydney DeVoe in the 1600m and the 3200m, Veronica Yang in the 1600m, Tara Lenahan in the 800m, Joe Wells in the 3200m and Ben Henry in the 3200m who dominated his heat winning the race by 150 meters. The boy’s 4x400m relay team of Mike Sauls, Carlos Jimenez, Keahre Ford and Isiah Munoz set a new school record running 3:47. The team had an impressive showing at its first state sectional meet but the shining moment belonged to South Amboy’s superstar Patrick Walsh who led the 3200m race start to finish becoming the first state sectional champion in school history! Patrick’s win is the biggest moment in South Amboy running history up to this point and one of the most notable accomplishments in South Amboy sports over the last several years. Congratulations to the team and special congratulations to Patrick whose accomplishments continue to make us all proud.
